In memory of
Olive Flett
From
Rosie, Alex and Doreen, Olive’s children
"Mum was active all her life even up to the end – the nursing home affectionately called her the Roadrunner as she was always on the move. She started going to Thistle gym, as she called it, with neighbours in the estate, Sheila and Alex. She loved her time there – I’m not sure what she enjoyed more though, working out on the treadmill or the bacon roll and cup of tea that followed!
"Even after her neighbours moved, they would collect Mum and take her to Thistle. I recall her talking about how the treadmill had broken down: she was very keen to contribute and donated a cheque to help get it fixed. She absolutely loved attending the gym. She always talked fondly about it. It gave her something to look forward to along with social interaction and exercise. I am sure when she was at Thistle she talked to lots of people; whenever we were out, she would strike up conversations with complete strangers. Growing up she would invite lonely elderly people to Sunday dinner and go shopping for them. Her actions and examples spoke volumes and she was loved dearly by all her family.
"We miss Mum greatly. She was so special, kind and had a huge heart. We will be forever grateful to Thistle Foundation for improving the quality of her life whilst she was able to attend. Thank you."
