Connecting Craigmillar

Connecting Craigmillar fosters community through fun, learning and creating positive change together.

What is Connecting Craigmillar?

Connecting Craigmillar works to enable opportunities for local people to meet, have fun, learn, form new friendships and develop lasting, positive change together.

It is for local residents of all ages and backgrounds in Craigmillar and Niddrie to develop projects, groups, events, and activities around what they are interested in, and to focus on things they want to learn about and change.

The aim and ethos of the project is supporting mutual aid, peer support, informal learning, and community-led action. If you live in the area or know someone that does, you can get in touch with Connecting Craigmillar who can support you to develop an idea, passion, or interest, or act on an issue you care about.

We work in partnership with many local groups and organisations to develop activities and projects led by community members. We're open to any ideas and always keen to support different things. In the past this has included photography, woodland conservation, Craigmillar and Niddrie Community Festival, food, bikes rides, community cinema club, DIY workshop space, community murals, family support (for those affected by addicition), ESOL groups, art and sketching and much more. So, do get in contact with an idea, or if you are interested in any of the groups/activities we are currently supporting.

We are also supporting 'Let The People Sing' and the Recovery Bothy on Niddrie Mains Road, and working together with them as well as the Craigmillar and Niddrie Recovery Forum.

We have had a range of peer and community-led support services, including

  • Creative groups – Art Club, Tapestry, Stitching

  • Peer support groups – e.g. Men’s and Women’s Groups

  • Art exhibitions

  • Open Mic music events

  • Family Fun Days

  • Cooking Sessions

  • Parents/carers support – Mindful Mothers Circle and Tea Talk for parents at primary school

Other projects and activities have included a Cinema Club, a social group, outdoor Tai Chi, walking group, family addiction support group, ESOL, pottery, and more.

These can be on-going and weekly, or short courses, or one off activities or events.
